Two Strips Of Latinum: Who Will Be The Next Mr. Fantastic?

Adrien Brody or Jonathan Rhys Meyers … who should be the next Mr. Fantastic?

In the last couple of days, Hollywood has been abuzz with rumors. Now, that in itself is not newsworthy as rumors and that business are a staple of life. What has caught this writer’s attention is who is being rumored for a very unique role.

As many of you probably know, one of the latest movies to be subjected to the rebooting mania that is sweeping the industry of late is The Fantastic Four. The subject of the recent rumors is who might get the role of Reed Richards, better known as Mr. Fantastic, in the new movie.

One of the actors rumored is Oscar winner Adrien Brody, who won his Oscar for the The Pianist. Another website, Blastr, points out that Mr. Brody has two science-fiction roles this summer, Predators and Splice, and sings his praises that his physicality would seem to make him the front runner for the role.

The other actor, who I feel that Blastr did not give enough credit to his qualifications for the role, is Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who also had a film this summer, From Paris With Love, and finished his role in Showtime’s The Tudors after four years with a performance in the final episode that moved many to tears.

Rhys Meyers’ performance as King Henry VIII in The Tudors was, in this writer’s opinion, absolutely brilliant and the best presentation of the role since the amazing Keith Michell’s work in the BBC’s The Six Wives of Henry VIII in the 1970s. That role is not an easy one, as an actor playing the famous (or infamous, depending on your viewpoint) king has to display excellent physical abilities to properly portray the character as he aged and as disease tore into him and ultimately took his life.

Combine his work in The Tudors to the rest of his resume, and you can see that Rhys Meyers is clearly an excellent choice to bring to the role. While Brody brings very heavy credentials and name recognition, Rhys Meyers brings name recognition, along with being a fresh face in the world of science-fiction and fantasy that would be a major plus.

Frankly, either actor in this role would be a major plus for the new movie. However, I would personally like to see it go to Jonathan Rhys Meyers as I believe his performance would be a major asset to a film that is starting to gather excitement before it even goes before the cameras. He would certainly be my choice.
