Happy first day of Comic-Con!
I am sitting at Tampa International Airport right now in Florida, and it’s about 7:30 a.m. local time waiting for our flight, which leaves for Dallas in about an hour, and then on to San Diego.
Traveling with me is Bryant Griffin, the editor of Rabid Doll, since he’s a fellow Tampa resident.
This is my third year going to San Diego Comic-Con, and this is Bryant’s second trip. We also have a great stable of writers attending as well, including Tiffany Vogt (back to help us out for a second year), Terilynn Shull, special guest contributor Diana Keng, and brand new Inside Blip writer Debby Andrede.
I hope you are enjoying the new look of the BlipNetwork sites, and bear with us as we continue to tweak some of the layout and some other construction dust you might see around.
Our schedule is a pretty light one today, but still pretty interesting.
Tiffany Vogt is starting things off first thing this morning talking to some of the great people from the awesome new movie “Tron: Legacy.” I saw the trailer for this like a million times on my Apple TV, and I’m excited as hell to see what Disney is cooking up for a sequel. So Tiffany will be providing Airlock Alpha readers a first look later today.
Then Terilynn Shull will attend the “Caprica, Battlestar and Beyond” panel beginning at noon PT for Airlock Alpha featuring Richard Hatch, Bear McCreary, Michael Taylor and Kevin Grazier. Probably not a lot of new news there, but still, you never know what kind of cool insight Terilynn might be able to dig up.
At 1 p.m. PT, Tiffany will represent Inside Blip at the “Burn Notice” panel, the awesome series from USA Network (who the people there are traveling almost as far as we are). On that panel is Bruce Campbell, Matt Nix, Alfredo Barrios Jr. and Jeffrey Donovan.
Then it’s back to Airlock Alpha at 2:30 p.m. PT when Debra Andrede examines the state of science-fiction, fantasy and horror with the “State of the Geek Report” featuring Steve Melching, Airlock Alpha favorite Ashley Edward Miller, Steve Kriozere, Jeff Bond, Bill Hunt and Todd Doogan.
Tiffany will keep her focus on the USA Network for Inside Blip with “Psych” beginning at 3:30 p.m. PT. That will include some teasers from James Roday, Dulé Hill, Maggie Lawson, Tim Omundson, Kirsten Nelson and Corbin Bernsen. Corbin Bernsen? Really? Awesome!
Then our special contributing writer Diana Keng will try to spend four hours in a line for Hall H to get in to see Entertainment Weekly‘s The Visionaries, a panel that will include “geek gods” J.J. Abrams and Joss Whedon. Oh yeah, she’ll stand in line a long time for that one. Hell, I might, too!
Later in the afternoon, Rabid Doll’s Bryant Griffin will get a chance to talk to Robert Kirkman from “The Walking Dead” on AMC. However, there’s a panel of horror filmmakers going on about the same time, so it’s still a toss up where Bryant may end up.
Then beginning at 5 p.m. PT, 8 p.m. ET, Nick Chase will host a live edition of Alpha Waves Radio, featuring many of the writers we have on site, including me! Don’t miss what we’ve learned in our first day, and what’s coming up the rest of the weekend. It’s been almost a year since Nick hosted, but we know he’ll be able to walk right back into it.
At 6 p.m. PT, Tiffany does some work for Rabid Doll, exploring Showtime’s amazing show “Dexter.” It’s scheduled to include Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter, Desmond Harrington, John Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, Chip Johannessen and “Star Trek: Enterprise” alum Manny Coto. Yum!
Remember that we will be updating all the sites throughout the day .. hopefully as quickly as possible. You can follow all the Comic-Con news that we post right here.
If you are in San Diego, look for us! At least Bryant and I are wearing some cool new Airlock Alpha T-shirts that we’ll likely start selling in the near future. So if you see someone wearing an Airlock Alpha shirt, it could be one of us, so stop us and say hello! Who knows, you may win a prize!
Also, on Saturday, Airlock Alpha is hosting a “Con-ival” Saturday beginning at 8 p.m. local time at the Grand Lobby Bar at the Manchester Grand Hyatt, located at One Market Street right next to the San Diego Convention Center. The fun will go on until about midnight with some great special guests (including me!), and readers like you! It’s free (although you have to get your own drinks).
Make sure you keep coming back to all the BlipNetwork sites all weekend for the latest Comic-Con coverage, and follow all the writers on Twitter @ComicConAA.
