Another Import, 'Almighty Johnsons,' Comes To Syfy

New Zealand series is already two seasons old

With the success of shows like "Lost Girl" and "Continuum," Syfy is trying to keep the magic going with yet another international import that has wowed audiences in New Zealand.

The cable channel has ordered "The Almighty Johnsons," a story about four typical fun-loving guys who have inherited the power of Norse gods.

And while they might have this power, they still have to go through everyday young adult issues like love, overcoming sibling rivalry and fulfilling their god-like destiny.

"A compelling blend of fantasy and comedy, this quirky series should resonate strongly with our viewers," said Syfy's vice president of programming Chris Regina, in a release.

The show is produced by All3Media, a United Kingdom-based company that has produced other shows like "Undercover Boss," "Cash Cab" and just about anything starring Gordon Ramsay.

"Almighty Johnsons" premiered in New Zealand in January 2011, but the show was reportedly canceled after the second season. However, fans in New Zealand mounted a campaign in which they sent twigs to the network -- representing the "tree of life" on the show -- that earned the show a third-season renewal at the end of 2012.

The series has been on Space in Canada since 2012, and actually debuted its Season 3 premiere the same time as New Zealand last month.

It stars Emmett Skilton, Siobhan Marshall, Tim Balme, Dean O'Gorman and Jared Turner. Of the group, only O'Gorman might be familiar to American audiences from shows like "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys," "Xena: Warrior Princess" and "Farscape." He also played Fili in The Hobbit trilogy.

Turner also has some credits Syfy audiences might recognize including roles in "30 Days of Night" and "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans."

The first season of "Almighty Johnsons" will premiere in 2014 on Syfy.
