NBC Renews 'Revolution,' Adds Rockne S. O'Bannon

PLUS: 'Grimm' gets a third season as well on Friday nights

Not that it should be a huge surprise, but NBC is putting some more faith into its new genre series "Revolution" by giving it a second season on the network.

"Revolution," from "Supernatural" creator Eric Kripke as well as "Star Trek: Into Darkness" director J.J. Abrams, is set in the near future after the planet has been without electrical and mechanical power for years. While the people struggle, others look to take power -- with one dictator looking to take power by using power.

Joining the writing room for Season 2 will be Rockne S. O'Bannon, The writer, best known for his work on "Farscape" as well as the new Syfy series "Defiance," will be an executive producer as well, second in command to Kripke, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He joins Trey Callaway from "CSI: New York."

Also getting a third season renewal is "Grimm," a popular genre show for NBC on Friday nights that has continued to effectively merge fables and reality. While it's not getting the same type of ratings as "Revolution," it is remaining steady in the ratings for its second season.

"Revolution" has had a huge boost this season not only from a huge promotional campaign that NBC has undertaken, but also by being paired up with "The Voice," the popular reality competition show on the network.

Also getting renewed were the other new drama for NBC, "Chicago Fire," as well as "Parenthood."

"Revolution" stars Billy Burke, Tracy Spiridakos, Giancarlo Esposito and David Lyons. "Grimm" stars David Giuntoli, Russell Hornsby, Bitsie Tulloch, Silas Weir Mitchell and Sasha Roiz.

"Revolution" airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET, while "Grimm" airs Fridays at 9 p.m. ET.
