Fox Moves 'Touch' To Mid-Season

Will help series get uninterrupted run when it returns

Anyone planning their Halloween holiday around the second season premiere of "Touch" is going to have to make some different plans.

Fox said it's moving the Kiefer Sutherland series from Oct. 26 to next January, moving it into a mid-season slot that could possibly move it out of Fridays, where it's currently scheduled.

And that's not much of a stretch. Fox has had a very slow start to the season so far, currently sitting in fourth place even behind NBC. The network is averaging a 4.0 rating/6 share in Fast National overnight ratings from The Nielsen Co. so far this season, down 13 percent from its average last year. Some early new shows like "Mob Doctor," "Ben & Kate" and even the heavily hyped "The Mindy Project" may be history sooner rather than later if ratings don't improve.

The move makes room for the Gordon Ramsay reality series "Kitchen Nightmares," which will now take over its Friday timeslot at the end of the month, paired up with the final episodes of "Fringe."

Last season "Touch" averaged a 4.7/7, tying it for fourth with the now-cancelled "Terra Nova" on Fox, and earning a spot just inside television's Top 50 overall.

Those numbers, however, are a bit misleading. Although the show was near a 7.0 household rating around its debut in March, it had fallen to a 4.1 household rating in its final episodes, and had a finale that drew just around a 3.0 household rating at the end of May.

Moving to Fridays guaranteed the show likely not much more than what it finished with in May, especially when shows like "Fringe" and "Kitchen Nightmares" have averaged not much more than 2.0 household ratings for the network that day.

Under the new schedule, "Touch" could earn a much more competitive timeslot, and could even fight for time after "American Idol" depending on how the rest of the network's schedule does in the first half of the season.

"Touch" stars Kiefer Sutherland, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and David Mazouz.
