Bryan Singer is moving forward with his "Battlestar Galactica" movie project, but he doesn't seem as ready to walk all over the Syfy revival of the series as some fans had originally feared.

Singer recently talked with IGN about the project, and while he was cautious to share too much about its progress.

"I have a script that's in revisions right now, and it's very cool," Singer said.

Reports last year were that the film would cater more to the original 1978 series from Glen A. Larson than the Ronald D. Moore remake. Yet, Singer seems to have somehow found a happy medium.

"It will exist, I think, quite well between the Glen Larson and Ron Moore universes, but that's all I want to say about it," Singer said. "But it's evolving quite well, and quite recently. I've been developing this for a while, and certain things came to fruition recently, and I hope to do it."

The script has been in the works for the last several months by John Orloff, a writer for HBO's "Band of Brothers" who also wrote last year's "Anonymous," which earned about $4.5 million at the box office (on a $30 million budget).

Singer is in an interesting position because he was originally the executive producer on board to bring back "Battlestar Galactica" in the very early 2000s for Fox. His plans were to do a direct continuation of the 1978 series. However, he had to back out of the project following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks after Fox decided to put the series on hold.

The company that would later become NBC Universal, who holds the television rights to the series concept, decided to keep the project in-house and brought in Moore -- popular from his days with "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and "Carnivale" -- to come in and reboot the entire franchise.

That show, which ran from 2004 to 2009 on Syfy, was nominated for 19 Emmys during its run, winning three. The original "Battlestar Galactica," which ran from 1978 to 1979, produced a short-lived spinoff not long after called "Galactica: 1980." It was nominated for three Emmys, winning two.
