Just a few months back, Syfy original content president Mark Stern told Deadline.com that the "Battlestar Galactica" spinoff prequel series "Blood & Chrome" was dead.

But that just might not be the case.

In his popular annual panel at San Diego Comic-Con, actor Richard Hatch -- who starred in the original 1978 "Battlestar Galactica" as well as had a recurring role in the 2003 revival -- told attendees that the first Cylon War could indeed move forward.

"What I've heard from sources is that 'Blood & Chrome' is [a] very epic, groundbreaking series," Hatch said. "They are still trying to determine where to place it. They have made no decision, it's not over. It's still in the pipeline."

That's a sharp contrast from what Stern said in a statement in March, talking about the fate of the show, saying a decision was made after "lengthy deliberations." Word after that was that Syfy would consider airing "Blood & Chrome" as an original movie, and then continue the show in a digital format, as was originally planned.

Syfy is "still trying to consider where is the best place to present this and the best time," Hatch said. "It's still viable, and still ongoing, and no final decisions have been made."

Of course, it's not clear if the sources who talked to Hatch about "Blood & Chrome" were talking about the ongoing series, or if it's just simply talk about when to air the pilot.

Either way, former "Battlestar Galactica" writer and "Caprica" executive producer Jane Espenson told the panel she's all for viewer finally getting a chance to see the finished product.

"Should anything happen, it would be awesome," she said. "The awesome Michael Taylor is involved with it, who worked with me on 'Battlestar' and again on 'Caprica.' That man has the most lyrical mind. He doesn't have a start of an idea far out."

The project was first commissioned in late 2010, but the pilot itself was not finished until November 2011.

The concept was created by "Battlestar Galactica" executive producer David Eick as well as Taylor, and starred Luke Pasqualino, Ben Cotton, Jill Teed and Lili Bordan.
