There’s always room for more Grumpy on "Once Upon a Time." This week, we’re treated to a whole episode built around him and his ill-fated love for a pink fairy.

The fairy in question is Nova, played adorably by "Angel" alumna Amy Acker. She and a dwarf named Dreamy (Lee Arenberg) are peas in a pod when it comes to wanting the change their destinies and see the world together.

The problem is, though, that even if a mine-dwelling dwarf and a cloud-sitting fairy can fall in love, where will they live? Representatives of both the fairy and dwarf communities convince Dreamy that the right choice is to give up on impossible love and allow both he and Nova to return to their respective worlds.

Which is how he becomes Grumpy instead.

In Storybrooke, Leroy and Mary Margaret are on a mission of their own. Mary Margaret (Ginnifer Goodwin) is trying to earn inner forgiveness by helping the town nuns with a fundraiser. And Leroy is trying to help Astrid (Acker, once again).

Wielding his own peculiar brand of magic, Leroy saves the town festival and saves the nuns’ home.

And on a side note, with Regina’s (Lana Parrilla) involvement, Emma’s investigation into the disappearance of Kathryn Nolan leads her to suspect David (Josh Dallas) is involved somehow.

WHAT WORKED
Now that the series’ worlds are starting to fill out, characters can drop by like Belle (Emilie de Ravin) and Stealthy (Geoff Gustafson) do this week. That’s a nice reward for regular viewers and gives a sense of reality to the fairytale world.

Lee Arenberg and Amy Acker light up what could be a cliched story of opposites attracting. And the dwarves’ world was fascinating and fleshed out without being distracting. The dwarves’ tale, in fact, results in some of the best lines in the series so far. Hopefully, we’ll see more of the little guys soon!

WHAT DIDN'T WORK
The story generally worked well, and each world’s tale only had little weaknesses. The faux holiday of Miners Day and the nuns’ presence came out of left field. And in the modern world, Emma doesn’t exactly follow good police procedure in her investigation. Oh, and the fairies’ outfits are still a little ridiculous.
