EA announces LOTR video games for PS2 and GameBoy

Ever wish you could be Frodo? Well the dreams of many "The Lord of the Rings" fans will come true with Electronic Arts' announcement of LOTR video games.

Set to be released for PlayStation2 and GameBoy, the games based off of J.R.R. Tolkien's novels and Peter Jackson's films will revolve around both "The Fellowship of the Ring" and "The Two Towers." The games are slated to be released in Fall 2002 to coincide with "The Two Towers" release December 18th.

The PS2 version allows players to assume the roles of Aragorn, Legolas or Gimli to battle orcs, the cave troll and Saruman. The virtual 16 missions will closely match the images of both movies. Touted as a fast paced stragtegy game, the player must pick the correct character, weaponry and combat-move combinations to succeed. The PS2 game is being co-developed by EA's Redwood Shores and Stormfront studios.

In the GameBoy version players can choose from Aragorn, Legolas, Frodo or Gandalf as characters. The game will include more than 30 levels. It is being developed by Griptonite Games, an Amaze Entertainment Studio.
