'Once Upon A Time,' 'Grimm' Hold Audiences
PLUS: ABC gives full season to new fairy tale drama
ABC likes what it sees with "Once Upon a Time." Not only does it remain, by far, the genre's strongest showing on network television, but it also just earned a full season pickup from ABC after just two episodes.
The series fell just 8 percent in its second week to a 6.8 rating/10 share, according to Fast National overnight ratings from The Nielsen Co., and remains the network's highest-rated series on Sundays ahead of "Desperate Housewives" and "Pan-Am."
"Grimm" hasn't heard any news yet from NBC, but its drop from Week 1 to Week 2 was just 12 percent, maintaining a solid showing on Fridays for the network, and almost keeping pace with the high-budget "Terra Nova" on Fox.
That dinosaur series has lost some serious ground. It's averaging a 5.2/8 after five episodes, more than 7 percent off what Fox did in the timeslot last year. Its most recent outing, a 3.9/6, was beat by everything on television except "Sing-Off" on NBC.
"Grimm" is trying to do well despite a weak lead-in. "Chuck" continues to wobble with a 2.2/4. That's nearly 30 percent off from its series average last year, and is forcing "Grimm" to build on that audience by 77 percent -- an amazing statistic.
In fact, "Grimm" beat "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" on ABC as well as "Fringe" on Fox, but still has just half the audience of "CSI: New York" on CBS. "Grimm" is NBC's fifth highest-rated show, and its top-rated new show this past week.
"Fringe" continues to make it difficult for Fox to stay behind it. It returned as network television's lowest-rated show among the Big Four networks, and tied "Vampire Diaries" in terms of household rating. Yet, it has an Audience Loyalty Index rating of 95.1, meaning that of all the viewers who have tuned in to see at least one episode, more than 95 percent of them are coming back each week.

Fast Nationals usually provide a snapshot of what Americans are watching by pulling numbers from the top urban markets that include both live viewing and same-day timeshifted viewing. A rating point generally represents more than 1.1 million households while the share indicates the percentage of televisions turned on that was tuned to the specific program. These numbers typically shift when final ratings are issued.
