Joseph Gordon-Levitt Will Not Play Falcone

Actor has joined 'The Dark Knight Rises' but role is still a mystery

It is undisputed that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be in "The Dark Knight Rises." The only question is what role will he play?

As previously reported, it was believed that Gordon-Levitt would be playing Alberto Falcone, the son of mob-boss Carmine Falcone who faced the Caped Crusader in 2005's "Batman Begins." Not only is the character related to one of the villains from the first movie but he is also known as the Holiday Killer.

However, it now appears that Gordon-Levitt will not be playing the younger Falcone after all.

According to an insider speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the Falcone story that was originally posted by Variety is "incorrect" and the identity of his character is being kept closely under wraps. The actor was linked to the movie last year and was rumored to be being considered as The Riddler.

"A source close to the situation says that recent reports that Gordon-Levitt will play Alberto Falcone (a.k.a. the Holiday Killer) — the son of former mob kingpin, Carmine Falcone (Tom Wilkinson) — are incorrect," the site said.

Now that both villains have been discredited, rumors are flying that the actor could be signed up to play Robin, Batman's sidekick and hero-in-training. However, it is important to note that this is not the only Robin rumor currently circulating with regards to the movie with some claiming that this movie will introduce a female Robin based on a character from Frank Miller's series.

"The Dark Knight Rises" is slated for release in July, 2012.
