Joseph Gordon-Levitt Cast In 'The Dark Knight Rises'
Actor will reunite with 'Inception' director Chris Nolan
When production first started on Chris Nolan's Batman threequel, Joseph Gordon-Levitt was rumored to be joining the cast as The Riddler.
We now know that those reports were completely false ... but that hasn't stopped the actor from signing up for a role in "The Dark Knight Rises" anyway.
Gordon-Levitt will be reuniting with the "Inception" director to play the son a notorious villain from "Batman Begins." According to Variety, the actor will play Alberto Falcone, the son of mob-boss Carmine Falcone who faced the Caped Crusader in the 2005 flick. In that movie, Falcone (Tom Wilkinson) was finally tied to the scene of a crime (after evading Gotham P.D. for many years) and later sent to Arkham Asylum.
In comic book lore, his son Alberto Falcone is also known as the dark and twisted serial killer, Holiday. The character was also a key part of the comic stories that originally inspired Nolan when he was developing the Batman movies.
The announcement that the younger Falcone will be joining the movie brings the villains for "The Dark Knight Rises" to a full three, including Catwoman (Anne Hathaway) and Bane (Thomas Hardy).
"The Dark Knight Rises" is slated for release in July, 2012.
