Commitment Issues May Stop 'Smallville' Wedding Bells
Erica Durance teases the future of Lois and Clark as a star-crossed couple
If you thought that "yes, I will marry you" meant clear sailing for the Man-of-Steel, then you might have to re-think the idea.
In the upcoming episodes of "Smallville," Lois Lane (Erica Durance) will start to pull away from the love of her life now that she knows he is The Blur. According to Durance, who first joined the series in the fourth season, her character's long-running commitment issues may keep the couple apart for a little longer, casting doubt on the idea that fans will be seeing wedding bells before the end of the season.
"You'll see a couple of moments where you think, oh God, is Lois going to run away again?" Durance said "You know [she has a] fear of commitment."
However, nothing is set in stone yet as decisions have still to be made on whether or not the couple will be seen to finally tie the knot.
When the series returns, the Vigilante Registration Act, better known as the VRA, is in full swing and Martha Kent (Annette O'Toole) returns to Metropolis to protect Clark (Tom Welling) now that he is finally in the cusp of realizing his destiny as Superman. In the process, Martha will give Lois her approval on marrying Clark.
Lois is "given the thumps up," Durance said. "She gets in Martha what she doesn't have, and that is this open relationship with a woman and a mother figure."
Also in upcoming episodes fans can expect to see the alternate Lionel (John Glover) re-claim Luthorcorp for his own nefarious purposes and the introduction of yet another comic book hero, The Blue Beetle.
"Smallville" returns on Jan. 28 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
