The story for "The Dark Knight Rises" is still being kept tightly under wraps, but one thing is now clear: the threequel will most definitely include the character Selina Kyle, otherwise known as Catwoman.
Warner Bros. have confirmed that the villainess –- and love interest for Bruce Wayne -– will appear in the third installment of the series and that Anne Hathaway has won the role.
Reports have been circulating the web for a while that Hathaway was in the running to play the infamous cat burglar, as was Jessica Biel and Keira Knightley. All three tested alongside star Christian Bale, who recently received a Golden Globe for his work on "The Fighter." Hathaway emerged as the best match for director Chris Nolan's vision.
"Inception" and "Star Trek: Nemesis" actor Tom Hardy has also been confirmed for the film, playing a villain that has yet to be the focus in the Batman movies: Bane.
According to the comic book mythology, Bane spent his entire life in prison and became the test subject for strength-enhancing drugs. The character was originally introduced in 1993 and was known within the DC universe for being the character that defeated Batman, breaking his back and leaving him a paraplegic.
There are no details on how closely Nolan, who also directed "Inception," will stick to the story but he is certainly thrilled to have Hardy onboard.
“I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies,” Nolan said.
"The Dark Knight Rises" will begin filming in May and will hit theaters July 20, 2012.
