Life Will Get Tougher For Man-Of-Steel

Coming out will take Clark Kent to a place he didn't want to go

Last week, "Smallville" introduced Supergirl to the world (full costume and all) in a way that The Blur has never been able to do.

"V's" Visitor-girl Laura Vandervoort returned to Metropolis and revealed herself to the world as the Mistress-of-Steel, causing quite a stir in the media. Who as these vigilantes protecting the people whether they want to or not? What happens if they go bad? And why should they be allowed the anonymity?

Tough questions to be sure, but the conclusion of the episode quickly spun the series in a 180. Oliver Queen (Justin Hartley), otherwise known as the Green Arrow, came out to the world. Well, in a manner of speaking.

The closing scenes of "Supergirl" included a press conference and a weighty reveal; "I am Green Arrow."

So now that Ollie has been outed, what does this mean for Clark Kent (Tom Welling)? Well, for a start, life is only going to get tougher.

"For Clark, it's very impactful on his life, because [it's] the thing he's struggled with from the beginning about whether to be open with who he really is," showrunner Kelly Souders said. "He's now watching his best friend sort of go through it."

One thing "Smallville" has been chastised for in the past is how easily it is able to dismiss these kind of series-defying events, but that won't be the case with Oliver's coming out party. Nothing will be wrapped up nicely in the upcoming 200th episode, and instead his decision to unmask will become a crucial part of the 10th season.

"It's almost worse to watch your friend take the heat because you're still hidden than to take it yourself if you're Clark," showrunner Brian Peterson said. "That's going to be a big part of this first journey for Clark, watching what happens to Oliver after he's come out."

"Smallville's" milestone 200th episode airs Oct. 15 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
