Syfy Renews 'Warehouse 13,' Signs Deal With Showrunner

More 'Warehouse 13' on the way, plus more programming from Jack Kenny

It shouldn't come as a surprise, but Syfy has renewed "Warehouse 13" for a third season and an official announcement is imminent.

Since the show premiered in 2009, "Warehouse 13" has broken records that have existed with the channel dating back to its initial launch in 1992 and has remained among one of the channel's strongest performing original series. The sixth episode of the show, "Burnout," hit 4.4 million viewers making it the most watched show in the channel's history.

Its second season averaged 3.4 million viewers with 1.5 million in the key adults 18 to 49 age demographic. Those numbers also placed the series as Syfy's most watched series of the year.

The cable channel is expected to announce a new 13-episode pickup for the science-fiction comedy series starring Eddie McClintock and Joanne Kelly, as well as a new development deal with series executive producer and showrunner Jack Kenny in order to deliver new "outstanding" television shows for development.

"Jack Kenny's superlative leadership and the incredible talent of his cast and crew delivered an outstanding second season of Warehouse 13,'" Syfy programming chief Mark Stern said in a release. "We're excited to see this successful series return next year and to developing our next hit with Jack."

News that the series was returning was first circulated in September after Kenny announced via Twitter that Syfy has given him the greenlight to continue with the show.

"FYI, 'Warehouse 13' will definitely be back for a third season," he said in his post. "Official announcement may not be made till October, but we're coming back!"

A Christmas themed episode is due to air in the festive period with the third season expected to broadcast in 2011.

WOW! A real science-fiction show on the SciFi Network! And it's doing well! Go figure. It's broken records? Well, that's amazing!

It's not wrestling and it's not a stupid reality show about psychics or ghosts.

Who the hell it watching the show? People who like science-fiction?

But that's no longer the target demographic for the SciFi Network.

What are they going to do? Will they have to change their programming ideas? Will they have to produce more science-fiction based shows? How will they cope?

Next on SciFi....Mutant Tractors Inhabited by Aliens Vs. Really Bad Network Executives With Bad Ideas (except for ordering another season of Warehouse!)
