Half science-fiction, half western (with a healthy thread of comedy), "Firefly" aimed to misbehave, showing that not all sci-fi relied on techno-babble and alien worlds to succeed. As a strong believer that we are alone in this galaxy, Whedon developed a universe where mankind soared through the stars and settled on distant colonies, much like the frontier days of the Wild West.

There were no prosthetic aliens, ear alterations or Borg nanoprobes in sight. "Firefly" was a fun and thrilling western-drama with a cast that simply oozed talent and happened to masquerade as a sci-fi show. To put it simply, "Firefly" made sci-fi look cool.

Unappreciated, "Firefly" was cancelled after only 13 episodes. The move heralded a smattering of comparisons to Star Trek, another series that was under-rated and under-appreciated, and sparked a whole arrangement of fan outrage. In short, the series became a global phenomenon ... and the signal has never stopped.

Now, eight years later, the series is dust and the movie franchise ended with just one adventure, but there are still Browncoats out there that cling to independence and are keeping the "Firefly" signal alive.

"Browncoats: Redeptmion" is a unique story by fans and for fans set in the midst of Whedon's immersive 'verse.

Set three months after the events in "Serenity," "Redemption" returns to Miranda (the birthplace of the Reevers) and sees a new crew enter the crosshairs of the Alliance. The ships Captain, Laura Matthews, inadvertently trigger a new uprising which will soon lead to a new galaxy-wide war between the Browncoats and the Alliance.

Ambitious and determined, "Redemption" might just work. But don't be mistaken, this is not another fan-based movie as "Redemption" has something previous efforts have never had ... the blessing of Joss Whedon himself.

All the main players in Hollywood have consented to the production and no legal action will be taken for stepping into the 'verse, making "Redemption" a bonafide studio supported fan movie. Backing five charities (Equality Now, Kids Need to Read, The Dyslexia Foundation, The Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center and Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation), "Redemption" will once again show that you can't stop big damn heroes from doing what they do best.
