Alpha Waves To Broadcast Live From Comic-Con
PLUS: Extra production week added in July to celebrate 'Warehouse 13' episode
Since its return last November, Alpha Waves Radio on BlogTalkRadio has been airing shows just twice a month.
But in July, think about having a show almost every week.
That's because San Diego Comic-Con -- the "super bowl" of science-fiction entertainment -- resides in the hot summer month, and for the first time since 2008, Alpha Waves Radio and host Michael Hinman will broadcast live from the event.
"It's the first full day of the convention, so I'm not sure what kind of audio we'll get from the many celebrities there, but I'm certain there will be a lot of news and experiences to share," said Hinman, who is the site coordinator of the BlipNetwork, which includes Airlock Alpha, Rabid Doll and Inside Blip.
The 2008 show featured actors from shows such as "Kyle XY," "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" and more. It also touched on rumors at the time that Freema Agyeman would not appear in the third season of the "Doctor Who" spinoff "Torchwood" as expected, and more details of "Stargate: Universe," the planned spinoff in the Syfy Stargate franchise, which was still in its development stages at the time.
This year's show, which airs July 22 at 8 p.m. ET, 5 p.m. PT, will feature live reports from more than a half-dozen reporters the BlipNetwork will have on Comic-Con. It could possibly include (depending on what they are covering during the show) Rabid Doll editor Bryant Griffin as well as writers Tiffany Vogt, Terilynn Shull, new Inside Blip writer Debra Andrede and guest writer Diana Keng.
Called the "Comic-Con Spectacular," it will be hosted by BlipNetwork chief technology officer (and co-host of the show during Hinman's hiatus in 2009) Nick Chase from his base in North Carolina. The live show will have an open chatroom for listeners, and will be available after the broadcast in a free podcast format available at both AlphaWavesRadio.com and through Apple's iTunes Store by searching for "Alpha Waves Radio."
Because the live Comic-Con show will take place during Alpha Waves' normal broadcast schedule, the planned visit Hinman will have with "Warehouse 13" writers Deric A. Hughes and Benjamin Raab has been moved to July 15 beginning at 8 p.m. ET. Hughes and Raab, who wrote last year's episode "Duped," are the two men responsible for the July 13 episode "Mild Mannered," which features guest appearances by "Firefly" alums Jewel Staite and Sean Maher. The comic book-themed episode could very easily become a fan favorite, Hinman said based on his preview, and Hughes and Raab are ready to talk about what went into that episode, and what else to expect from the popular Syfy series this season.
Also featured in the July 15 show is Steve Sansweet, one of the organizers of Lucasfilm's Star Wars Celebration convention in Orlando, Fla.
Following the July 15 Alpha Waves podcast, Sci-Fi Talk host Tony Tellado, as always, will host the live call-in show Alpha Waves Rewind, which will be available in the same place. Both shows will be made available in a free archive form after the broadcast at both AlphaWavesRadio.com and Apple's iTunes Store.
Alpha Waves Radio, which last week featured "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" alum Chase Masterson, will almost return to its regular schedule in August. However, it will air on back-to-back weeks on Aug. 12 and Aug. 19, with the latter broadcast coming live from Seattle where the independent film "Judas Kiss" is filming. That live episode will feature some of the cast and crew of the independent sci-fi film, which will hopefully be released sometime in 2011.
Alpha Waves Radio remains one of BlogTalkRadio's more popular radio shows, first airing in early 2008 as the live SyFy Radio, and continuing regularly as a podcast twice monthly since last November.
Current and past shows can be found on front of the Airlock Alpha home page, or by visiting AlphaWavesRadio.com.
