Will it or won't it?

For the last couple months, "Fringe" fans have been asking the question on whether or not their series will survive the current year and earn itself a third season.

That question has now been answered and Fox has committed to a whole third season of J.J. Abrams' bizarre and weird scientific drama ... and there will be plenty more parallel universe antics and visits from Leonard Nimoy to keep fans glued to their screens.

After becoming a success in its debut season, "Fringe" moved not only to a new night in the schedule but also to a whole other side of the continent. The first season of the series filmed in New York, however was forced to move at the beginning of its second season after the city's tax incentive program designed to encourage filming in the area dried up. The show migrated north to Vancouver, British Columbia, where it has filmed the second season.

"Fringe" has struggled in the ratings this year after moving to its new timeslot, averaging just 7.6 million viewers. It may sound like a lot, however other Fox shows which have yet to receive a renewal, like "24" have been pulling higher numbers and are well established as part of the Fox entertainment brand.

"Fringe" has averaged a 4.0 rating/6 share on Thursdays in overnight ratings since moving to that new timeslot, down more than 36 percent from its first season average of a 6.3/10.

The figures also place "Fringe" at No. 50 in the 18-49 age demographic, a key portion of the audience advertisers are interested in.

So now that the series has survived the 2009-10 season, the question is will it survive the next?

New episode of "Fringe" return on April 3, and airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
