During a recent news conference, the SciFi Channel announced that "Caprica," the prequel to the network's popular series "Battlestar Galactica" which has been in development for two years, will get a two-hour pilot episode that will begin production this Spring, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

"Caprica" is set 50 years before the "Galactica" series takes place, and will focus on the Adama family and the origins of the mechanical race of Cylons. Ronald D. Moore and David Eick will oversee the project.

In related news, "Galactica" webisodes and a game based on the show will appear in mid-April.

Also, the final season premiere will be available online nine hours prior to the time it airs on the network itself.

Other programs SciFi will provide include "True Believer," a two-hour program from "Occult Crimes Task Force" creators Rosario Dawson and David Atchinson and will focus on a comic-book fan who convinces a real superhero to show him how to fight crime, "The Stranded," a two-hour pilot based on a Sci Fi/Virgin Comics book, and "Estate of Panic" dealing with seven people who compete to find millions of dollars.

New seasons have also been approved for "Scare Tactics," which has a new host in "30 Rock's" Tracy Morgan, "Ghost Hunters International" and "Mind Control With Derren Brown."

The fourth season of "Battlestar Galactica" will debut on the SciFi Channel on Friday, April 4, at 10 p.m.
