ABC and Marvel Studios have announced that Adrianne Palicki will portray Barbara “Bobbi” Morse, a.k.a. Mockingbird, in Season 2 of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
In the Marvel comics, Mockingbird is a lethal S.H.I.E.L.D. agent with close ties to Clint Barton/Hawkeye (played by Jeremy Renner in the Marvel Cinematic Universe). Mockingbird has also been a part of the Avengers, the West Coast Avengers, the New Avengers and the Secret Avengers.
Palicki will reportedly play the role in Episode 5 of the second season, with the potential to become a recurring character. It’s very possible that Mockingbird will not be an immediate ally to Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his team.
At Comic-Con International in July, Patton Oswalt — who plays Billy and Sam Koenig in the show — teased that Mockingbird could appear.
Best known for her lead role in NBC’s “Friday Night Lights,” Palicki is no stranger to the world of superheroes. She previously starred in pilot episodes based on DC characters Wonder Woman and Aquaman, neither of which were ordered to series.
She has also appeared in the 2010 film “Legion” as well as “G.I. Joe: Retaliation.”
Palicki is the latest addition to the cast of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” following Kyle MacLachlan, Lucy Lawless, Reed Diamond, Nick Blood, Henry Simmons and Simon Kassianides.
“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” returns to ABC on Sept. 23. It stars Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Brett Dalton, Chloe Bennet, Iain De Caestecker and Elizabeth Henstridge.
