“Superman Returns” actor Brandon Routh will take on another heroic role from the DC universe, this time on The CW’s superhero drama “Arrow.”
Routh will guest star on 14 episodes of the hit series as Ray Palmer, a scientist and inventor, according to Deadline. In the comics, Palmer becomes The Atom, a hero possessing the ability to shrink and grow his body and other objects.
Palmer will reportedly serve as the new owner of Queen Consolidated, and he will be a love interest for Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards).
“Arrow” has already included many DC Comics characters, including Deathstroke (Manu Bennett), Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman), Deadshot (Michael Rowe) and The Huntress (Jessica De Gouw).
Making his debut in Showcase No. 34 in October 1961, The Atom was one of the first Silver Age superheroes.
“Arrow” follows billionaire Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) who, after being stranded on a hostile island for five years, becomes a street vigilante to combat his city’s rampant crime and corruption.
The series was developed by writer-producers Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim, and it is based on the popular DC Comics character Green Arrow, who first appeared in More Fun Comics No. 73 in November 1941.
Routh’s previous DC role was Clark Kent/Superman in Bryan Singer’s 2006 film “Superman Returns.”
Season 3 of “Arrow” premieres Oct. 8.
