Syfy To Dominate San Diego Comic-Con Once Again

Re-opening of Cafe Defiance, lots of chances to win prizes

Once again Syfy is busy at San Diego Comic-Con, creating experiences for those visiting the city, even if they are not going to the convention itself.

With fans getting a huge introduction last year to the cable channel’s new hit show, “Defiance,” Syfy is looking to try it all over again with the new series from “Battlestar Galactica” developer Ronald D. Moore, “Helix.” The series, about a mysterious outbreak in a desolate Arctic outpost, is set to premiere in January.

The world will get its first introduction to “Helix” during Comic-Con, starting with a building wrap of the Marriott Marquis & Marina Hotel, located adjacent to the San Diego Convention Center. Fans who retweet the image of the wrap and also “like” the Helix Facebook page and follow the show on Twitter, will get a chance to see some “Helix” clips prior to the Comic-Con panel.

For the second year, MaryJane’s Cafe in San DIego’s Gaslamp Quarter will be transformed into Cafe Defiance, which will not only include great good, but also video displays, social and interactive elements, as well as game play. Fans visiting the cafe, located across the street from the convention center, can also tweet photos of the cafe using hashtag #DefianceSDCC, and have a chance to win a prize package.

If that were not enough, a Bioman from “Defiance” will also hang out to take pictures with fans.

Syfy has also brought two of the Dodge Chargers used in “Defiance” to patrol the streets of San Diego, all part of a sweepstakes to win a Dodge Charger. All fans have to do to enter is snap a picture of one of the “Defiance” Chargers and tweet a pic with hashtag #DodgeDefiance.

The cable channel will keep fans abreast of what’s happening at the various panels, simply by visiting with official and user-generated posts updated in real time all week long. Also, anyone who tweets out that link has a chance to win an Xbox 360.
