Prince Charles Outed As ‘Doctor Who’ Fan

Royal tried to get 50th anniversary secrets from cast

The Doctor might be the king of time and space, but the future king of England is, well, the future king of England.

And the two titans went head-to-head Wednesday as Prince Charles, and his wife Camilla Parker Bowles, visited the set of “Doctor Who” in Wales to help celebrate the show’s 50th anniversary.

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall met with Matt Smith, the current Doctor, as well as his companion, Clara, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman. Also attending the visit was “Doctor Who” showrunner Steven Moffat.

“Showing them how to fly the Tardis was a real treat, and something I never thought I would be doing when I first took on the role,” Smith said, in a release. “The Prince of wales said he remembers watching the show when he was 15, and seemed very knowledgable on the Who history, so it’s nice to think they are watching.”

“Doctor Who” premiered in 1963 when Prince Charles was just 15. The events surrounding the creation of “Doctor Who” are the subject of a biopic that BBC will release later this year.

“The Prince was particularly interested in the mechanics of how the Tardis works adn the storyline for the upcoming 50th anniversary special, but I didn’t give too many secrets away,” Coleman said.

Charles and Camilla also had a chance to meet a Dalek, something even the Royal armies would not be able to defeat without The Doctor’s help.

This is the first official Royal visit to BBC Cymru Wales since the new Roath Luck studios opened early last year. Those studios are now where “Doctor Who” is filmed.

The annual visit is designed to promote Wales as well as the country’s charities and projects.

“Doctor Who” returns Nov. 22 for its 50th anniversary special, and will see the departure of Smith as The Doctor in the Christmas Special on Dec. 25.
