Soap Star Brittany Allen Joins Syfy’s ‘Defiance’

Will work closely with series star Mia Kirshner

Brittany Allen will have a chance to work a lot closer to her Toronto home after signing on to a recurring role in the much-hyped new Syfy series “Defiance.”

Allen, who won a Daytime Emmy for her work in the soap opera “All My Children,” will play Tirra, who works for the Defiance town madam Kenya, played by Mia Kirshner. When Tirra and Kenya are abducted (mostly at the fault of Tirra), the two form a bond that will likely last for episodes to come.

Allen appeared in more than 200 episodes of “All My Children” between 2009 and 2010, after spending the decade before making guest appearances on a variety of Canadian television series. “All My Children” ended its 41-year run last year. She does have some genre credits, however, including a guest spot in “The Listener,” a Canadian crime drama about a paramedic who discovers he has telepathic powers.

She also most recently filmed an episode of “Lost Girls,” another popular Canadian genre series that has since been rebroadcast on Syfy.

Allen is currently filming “Backgammon” with Mexican writer and director Francisco Orvananos.

“Defiance” stars Grant Bowler, Julie Benz, Stephanie Leonidas, Tony Curran, Jaime Murray, Graham Greene, Kirshner and Fionnula Flanagan in an ensemble effort that Syfy is bringing both to television and the gaming world. Taking place in a post-apocalyptic St. Louis (a town transformed and renamed Defiance), humans have to learn how to live with several groups of aliens that find refuge on the planet after a prolonged occupation.

The world is then continued in a massively multiplayer online game from Trion Worlds that brings instant elements of the series into the game, despite the fact the game is set in San Francisco.

Both the game and the series “Defiance” is set to debut in April on Syfy.
