Ratings For ‘The Event’ Plummet

Not even the 2-hour event helped boost the ratings

Monday nights have been tough for NBC.

“The Cape” received a shortened episode order and its final episode was never even aired, leading to speculation that the series will not be returning for a second season.

Could “The Event” be next?

The re-launch of the conspiracy show wasn’t exactly the television event that the Peacock hoped for an instead the return of the series proved disastrous.

After three months off the air, the first episode of “The Event” racked up a poultry 1.4/4 ratings with approximately 5.53 million viewers. And as if that wasn’t bad enough the ratings continued to plummet with the second episode of the evening showing a drop off of 26 percent and finishing up with 4.93 million viewers.

Now while those figures are comparable to other shows that are doing well, it is important to remember that “The Event” premiered to almost 11 million viewers.

However it is not all doom and gloom for the series. Before “The Event” went off on hiatus, the series was doing extremely well in the time shift figures, meaning that once post-night views on TiVo were factored in, the overall views jumped by over 50 percent. If the same holds true now it will show that “The Event” does have a more substantial following than nightly ratings indicate.

“I feel the material is really strong. I’m excited about the show,” executive producer Evan Katz told The Hollywood Reporter. “I feel like the episodes are just getting better each time, and I think we’re in a great groove. It’s just about NBC getting the message out.”

“The Event” airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
