Top blogged topics include Memorial Day, and a movie featuring the Enterprise
The new “Star Trek” movie was so popular among bloggers that it actually supplanted President Barack Obama and even former Vice President Dick Cheney as the most talked about subjects on the Internet.
In fact, according to a study completed by Nielsen Buzzmetrics Custom Analysis, only Memorial Day thoughts were more popular than “Star Trek” among bloggers, showing that even 45 years later, Kirk and Spock are huge topics of conversation.
Memorial Day discussions included retail sales and simply sharing plans on what people were doing for the holiday weekend, Nielsen said. Obama was being talked about quite a bit during May, especially over his hope to pass a new credit card reform law as well as his recent trip to the Middle East.
But even his controversial appearance at Notre Dame — which was enough to make “Notre Dame” the fifth most-discussed subject in the blogosphere in May — wasn’t enough to beat “Star Trek” in the No. 2 position.
May was a time to talk about movies, however. “Terminator: Salvation” also made the top 10 list, holding the final spot. However, it couldn’t get ahead of talk about Cinco de Mayo, mobile phones, the flu virus and U.S. Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor.
