Kit Harington is planning life after Game of Thrones, signing on to a limited series that will take a deep look into Guy Fawkes infamous plan to blow up Britain’s House of Lords in the 17th century.
The Jon Snow actor is set to play Robert Catesby in Gunpowder, according to Deadline, the mastermind behind the plot who was looking to restore Roman Catholic rule to a country that has since been taken over by Protestants. Joining Harington on the project for BBC One are Liv Tyler, Peter Mullan and Mark Gatiss.
Shooting starts this month on the real story of the Gunpowder Plot, the 1605 attempt by a group of provincial English Catholics to blow up the House of Lords and kill King James I in order to help restore a Catholic to the throne. The plot was foiled on Nov. 5 that year when authorities at Westminster Palace found Fawkes guarding the explosives.
Brits still celebrate Guy Fawkes Night every year with bonfires and fireworks.
The story also inspired the popular V for Vendetta graphic novel series that was later turned into a 2005 movie starring Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving.
Harington also is one of the people behind the scenes of the limited series, and even once said he was a direct descendant of the man he’s playing, Robert Catesby.
