‘Lego Batman’ Wins Again, Whipping ‘Fifty Shades’

China’s entry into the American film market didn’t do too badly, but ‘The Great Wall’ still debuted in third.

With Valentine’s Day behind us, the love for Fifty Shades Darker is beginning to slip a bit – but not enough for it to not give The Lego Batman Movie a run for box office supremacy.

Except in the end, it was the Dark Knight of family fun defeating the dark night of adult, er, “fun,” as The Lego Batman won its second week in a row at theaters.

The animated Warner Bros. outing earned $32.2 million, according to early box office estimates provided by The Numbers. That was down just 32 percent from its $53 million opening, and has brought its 10-day total to a smidge under $99 million domestically.

Fifty Shades was not far behind with a little less than $21 million. Although the Universal Pictures outing had pulled ahead of Lego Batman in total box office during the weekend, families returned to theaters on Saturday and Sunday, and now Fifty Shades‘ $90 million trails that of the animated feature built on Legos.

The Great Wall was the best-performing newcomer this weekend, a Chinese production starring Matt Damon, that seemed to get minimal promotion in the United States. Its $18.1 million was enough to earn it third place. But if anyone is worried that The Great Wall might not make back its $150 million, fear not. The film already has earned $170.2 million in China alone, bringing its worldwide cume to $242.6 million.
