‘Continuum’ Renewed For Six Final Episodes

Showcase sci-fi series returns for fourth season

“Continuum,” the acclaimed Showcase sci-fi series, is being renewed for a final fourth season.

Featuring six episodes, the season gives the series a chance to wrap up lingering plot lines after buzz about a possible cancellation.

The show, set in modern day and future Vancouver, Canada, tells the story of time traveling factions and their impact on the time space continuum following efforts to alter future events for their own intents.

With a strong focus on story fundamentals and compelling characters, “Continuum” offered a new take on time travel, dystopian futures and threats of modern — and future — technologies.

Originally airing on Showcase, in Canada, the series also found a home via a first-run syndication deal on Syfy in the U.S. and U.K.; however, at times it suffered a broadcast delay of several months.

The renewal no doubt comes as something of a bittersweet event for some fans after months of waiting for confirmation of a full season or outright cancellation by Showcase. That could have led to a roadblock for a first run of Season 4 on Syfy, who in September stated there would be little chance of picking up the series should Showcase cancel it outright.

Season 4 will air in 2015.

“Continuum” stars Rachel Nichols and a variety of sci-fi series veterans including Roger Cross (“First Wave”), Lexa Doig (“Gene Rodenberry’s Andromeda”), Tony Amendola (“Stargate SG-1”), Victor Webster (“Mutant X”), Brian Markinson (“Caprica,” “Sanctuary”) and William B. Davis (“The X-Files”).
