Starz Raises The Evil Dead

Network launches television series with Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell

Rumors of a sequel to the Evil Dead franchise have persisted for years, but now Starz will carry the story forward as a television series.

Sam Raimi, who directed “The Evil Dead” in 1981, will write and direct the first episode, and he will also executive produce the series, titled “Ash Vs. Evil Dead,” along with Rob G. Tapert.

Bruce Campbell is also aboard and will again star as Ash, the chainsaw-wielding demon hunter whose smart mouth and bad-luck antics endeared him to audiences through three films, including the 1987 sequel “Evil Dead II” and 1992’s “Army of Darkness.”

“I’m really excited to bring this series to the Evil Dead fans worldwide,” Campbell said. “It’s going to be everything they have been clamoring for: serious deadite ass-kicking and plenty of outrageous humor.”

The series will follow Ash as he faces a growing Deadite plague that threatens mankind.

“Evil Dead has always been a blast,” Raimi said. “Bruce, Rob and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the next chapter in Ash’s lame, but heroic saga.

“With his chainsaw arm and his ‘boomstick,’ Ash is back to kick some monster butt. And brother, this time there’s a truckload of it.”

Starz first worked with Raimi and Tapert on “Spartacus.” And the network is ecstatic to team with them on this popular horror franchise, according to Carmi Zlotnik, Starz managing director.

“With Sam writing and directing and Bruce Campbell returning to the screen, we are certain the show will give Evil Dead fans around the world the fix they’ve been craving,” Zlotnik said.

“Ash Vs. Evil Dead” will arrive on Starz in 2015.
